I strongly recommend this set of volumes produced by Richard Giulianotti, one of the most prominent global figures in the social-scientific study of sport. It is cross-disciplinary, extensively comparative, and global in its reach. Not merely is it the finest collection in the fields of sociology and sports studies, it successfully situates these as central to the social sciencesProfessor Roland RobertsonEmeritus Professor, University of Aberdeen [This four set volume] represent the highset degree of a solid and fundamentally fair, and highly qualified status report on development and content...Giulianotti has undoubtedly done a sterling job.Bo Carlssonidrottsforum.org
