The volume presents a comprehensive overview of rotation effects on fluid behaviour, emphasizing non-linear processes. The subject is introduced by giving a range of examples of rotating fluids encountered in geophysics and engineering. This is then followed by a discussion the relevant scales and parameters of rotating flow, and an introduction to geostrophic balance and vorticity concepts. There are a few books on rotating fluids and this volume is, therefore, a welcome addition. It is the first volume which contains a unified view of turbulence in rotating fluids, instability and vortex dynamics. Some aspects of wave motions covered here are not found elsewhere.
