4 Stars! "...focuses on organisms -- such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites -- and the diseases they cause.... It meets its objective of presenting concise information in a digestible manner.... The book is organized by organisms rather than by diseases. Each section covers a different type of organism and includes a differential diagnosis in its introduction. Introductory chapters provide an overview of the classification of organisms -- a structural framework to remember organisms -- and a listing of antimicrobials that are used to treat infections. The individual chapters feature a brief discussion of the individual organisms; a summary of facts including properties, epidemiology, clinical disease, diagnosis, and treatment provided in a concise table; and illustrations provided as a visual learning aid,... a useful addition to the field.... [If] students master this material, they will have a firm foundation in the principles and applications of microbiology."
