Siebald’s book is an important and much needed study of the origins of human resource management and the theory of leadership in light of the discourse about ecclesial leadership. She discloses the inadequacy of describing the pastoral role of leading a church primary with the term “leadership” due to the assumptions and beliefs that come with it. Her claim for the practice of communal discernment of God’s word promises to be a more worthy way of leading the church and might be an important as neglected attitude and ability for many European mainline churches today.
