Bibliography of the Symbolic Literature of the Renaissance

Robin Raybould (MA, LLM, Cambridge UK) is an independent scholar who specializes in the literature of Renaissance symbolism. Originally from the UK, he now lives and works in New York City. He has published several works on literary symbolism including a translation and commentary on Giehlow’s Hieroglyphenkunde (Brill 2015) which is complemented by his translation of Volkmann’s Bilderschriften der Renaissance (Brill 2018). In addition, he has published The Sibyl Series of the Fifteenth Century (Brill 2016), Elitism and the Approach to God (Brill 2025), and numerous articles in the field. Raybould’s translations have been described as elegant, admirable, and impeccable, and his historical fiction has won him a medal in the Independent Publishers Awards.
