"As the brilliant contributors to this shimmering compendium make clear: Barbara Johnson speaks to and for us—still. To read this team's essays is to see Johnson-inspired and -driven deconstructive literary reading deftly, defiantly, and decisively connect with our most pressing political and social issues. This collection is simply vital. A must-read." —Gregory Jones-Katz, Institute for General and Comparative Literature at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt"Barbara Johnson's lapidary essays on rhetoric and poetry might not seem the most obvious weapons in an attack on the degradation of democracy, education, and transgender rights. But the authors of The Barbara Johnson Collective, drawing on the energy of collaboration, have made a passionate and persuasive case. This book makes clear why language, thought, and writing matter, now more than ever." —Heather K. Love, University of Pennsylvania
