Matthew Olusoji Ilori, FAS, is a Professor of Microbial and Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is a former Dean of the Faculty of Science and a faculty on the SEAPHAGES program of the University of Lagos with Howard Hughes Medical Institute and University of Pittsburgh, USA. Professor Ilori has supervised 16 PhDs, has 165 publications comprising of 115 articles in international and national peer review journals, two (2) books and 48 conference papers. His current research is on optimizing the production of maize and rice growth hormones by rhizospheric microbes. He is a Fellow of Fulbright, Alexander von Humboldt, Royal Society and the Academy of Science (Nigeria). He is a member of several professional associations including the American Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology Society of Nigeria. Currently, he is the Director of the Institute of Maritime Studies and a member of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos. Oluwafemi Sunday Obayori was educated at the University of Ilorin (BSc.) and the University of Lagos (M.Sc., Ph.D). He is a Professor of Environmental Microbiology with specialization in biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons and related environmental pollutants. He lectures at the Department of Microbiology, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria. He has supervised students and both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including three Ph.D candidates. He has published widely in journals and chapters in books. His current research interest is in the bioresources of lagoons and antibiotic and heavy metals resistomes of polluted and pristine environments. He was at various times Head of Department of Microbiology and Dean of Students’ Affairs, a member of several scientific societies. Aside academics, Oluwafemi Obayori has unambiguous passion for literary interrogation and expression of social reality. Lateef Babatunde Salam was educated at Lagos State University (B.Sc.) and the University of Lagos (M.Sc., Ph.D). He is an Associate Professor of Environmental Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology. He lectures at the Department of Biological Sciences, Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo, Nigeria. He has supervised students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has published widely in reputable journals, and he is a regular reviewer for high impact journals in the field of Microbiology, Environmental Science, Biotechnology and Molecular biology. His current research focus is on the use of metagenomics to unravel microbiomes of pristine and perturbed environments and the impacts of diverse environmental stressors on species richness and diversity. He was at various times Head of Department of Biological Sciences, and the Director of Academic Planning, a member of several scientific societies, and currently the Head, Department of Biological Sciences, Elizade University.
