Dr. Ebru Emekli-Alturfan received her PhD in biochemistry from the University of Marmara in 2006 and was appointed as a professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at Marmara University, specifically within the Department of Basic Medical Sciences in 2016. Ebru Emekli-Alturfan leads a research group using Zebrafish as a model organism to investigate molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration. Their research encompasses neurodegeneration, neurodevelopment, and its molecular regulation in vertebrate development. They use zebrafish as a main model system. To investigate the genetic foundation of human diseases, they work together with colleagues both within the Medical and Dental School and internationally to develop and implement in vivo models. Besides leading a research group, Ebru Emekli-Alturfan teaches medical biochemistry courses at Marmara University's Faculty of Dentistry and Institute of Health Sciences.
