November 2015Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins are well known talented applique designers, and between them have written over 30 books. Their latest one looks at applique using wool fabrics mixed with cotton and linen. The first half of the book provides a comprehensive introduction to techniques, including choosing fabric and general quilt making as well as applique. They are clearly written with excellent photographs making the making this a great book for someone who wanted to learn more about the technique. There is a focus on wool fabrics, with a description of the difference between felted wool, and wool felt to prepare them for quilt making and the best threads to use them. The 12 projects are described on the cover as 'cheerful' and the designs include traditional applique motifs such as the quick strawberry pincushions and the longer projects including the stunning vintage gone modern quilt. This is a lovely book to read and look at, the authors have a huge amount of talent for mixing colours and fabric to make bright and modern looking applique.
