“Without Masters is an extraordinary genealogy that traces autogestión from the Algerian revolution through Mexico’s anarcho-punk scene, student movements, and Zapatismo. A radically novel contribution to political praxis, it’s also a how-to manual for the punks among us that refuse those ridiculously stubborn dichotomies of 'low' culture versus ‘high’; theory, South versus North, and activist versus academic trajectories.”—Shane Greene, author of, Punk and Revolution: Seven More Interpretations of Peruvian Reality“Foregrounding the importance of Mexican social movements to the global left, Livia K. Stone weaves together Mexican punk, the 1999 student strike, and the Zapatistas to demonstrate how the legacy of 1968 leftist politics has been transformed into ‘autogestion,’ a form of social movement that is radically horizontal, dispensing with the nationalism and masculinism to posit new models for political change.”—María Josefina Saldaña-Portillo, author of Indian Given: Racial Geographies across Mexico and the United States
