What Makes a Bird?

Nadeem Perera is a wildlife TV presenter, author, activist and co-founder of the birdwatching collective, Flock Together.?Born and raised in London, Nadeem's love of nature expressed itself at an early age when it helped him to overcome mental roadblocks and trauma.? Since then, his expert knowledge of birds and other wildlife has seen him rise to ?prominence in a predominantly white, middle class space. In 2020, together with Creative Director Ollie Olanipekun, he co-founded Flock Together, which encourages people of colour to get out and enjoy nature, support each other and look after their mental health.Montse Galbany started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil, and has never stopped since then.She is an illustrator and graphic designer living in Granollers, a city close to Barcelona. She studied graphic design at ELISAVA University and started editorial freelancing in 2017. Montse works digitally with shapes and vibrant colours to tell stories. Her illustrations are vivid and playful, reflecting her graphic design background and allowing her to create inspiring compositions.

Galbany follows suit with a bountiful gallery of species, all depicted in stylized but precise detail and in natural settings and attitudes but with plenty of inserted close-up views of distinctive beaks, nests, patterned feathers, and anatomical structures. Many pages do have a crowded look, but that shouldn't deter young naturalists from poring over this mix of fascinating facts and brightly colored bird portraits....A broad addition to the flock of bird books.
