'A witty book ... It's got everything in a novel that I really like' Jacqueline Wilson's Six Best Books, Express 'Audacious, playful and dazzlingly written' The Herald 'This giddily playful novel from Maggie Gee is a cunning what if: what if Virginia Woolf were to suddenly reappear in a library in modern-day Manhattan? - It's a gloriously funny, fleet-footed novel about the relationships between women and the ways literary heroes live on in our imaginations.' Metro 'Gee does a terrific (and puckishly poetic) job with Woolf's wit and acuity, her hoots of laughter and sudden fadings of joy - wickedly funny - this novel contains lines that sparkle' Sunday Telegraph 'Charming and funny ... If Woolf's intellectual discipline is missing, what must have made her a fascinating companion is not, and Gee's novel is a tribute to that aspect of her personality.' Independent 'Imaginative, amusing, masterful ... [Gee's] brilliant writing allows characters to leap off the page. The result is an exceptionally funny, incredibly witty and artfully crafted love letter to Woolf.' The Lady 'I love the work of Maggie Gee: wickedly smart, funny and fearless, plus that rarest of all things, genuinely surprising. Read her' Patrick Ness 'Brilliant - moving and clever, but most often is simply funny - Gee writes about Woolf with wit and affection, and has crafted an amusing and clever novel' Shiny New Books 'Marvellously contemporary ... Virginia Woolf in Manhattan is facetious, creative, and brimming with a plethora of thought-provoking scenes. It is the first of Gee's books which I have read, but I can safely say that it certainly will not be the last.' Nudge Books
