From an interdisciplinary perspective, the anthology takes into account the ruling decisions in the Eastern Mediterranean, in the Arab world and in Far Eastern China and primarily addresses the role of advisers and their diverse skills and knowledge resources. The focus of the study is on the transfer of specialist knowledge, its weighting when making decisions at rulers' courts and the comparison with similarly structured societies of the pre-modern era.
