Paul Cohen-Portheim was a German-born artist and theatre designer who worked in Berlin, Paris, and London. He was interned as an enemy alien on the Isle of Man and later Lofthouse Park near Wakefield from 1915 to 1918. After the war, he became a journalist and published several travel books, including The Spirit of England and The Spirit of France.
