The War of Us shadows the movements of three women whose seemingly peaceful, productive lives are interrupted by the murder of two unarmed, teenage brothers by an off-duty police officer in Atlanta's underbelly. In response, each of the women embark on a journey to survive the ensuing chaos. Amara's prejudice against the lower class, which includes her sister, Monika, is deceptive; and she quickly discovers that financial resources cannot save her from the impending war. Valerie, a heavily decorated officer, is prepared to use her physical strength, street ambition, and investigative prowess to unmask the perpetrators and restore peace in her city.

Ultimately, the city's police structure collapses and random gunfire cannot be controlled. As barricades contain the fighting, they trap innocent bystanders who seek to escape. Most astonishing is the insurgence of The African American Revolutionists (TAAR), whose roster of black sleeper cells would include thousands-if it had one-and who moved from table talks for justice and equality to becoming equipped to defend themselves at any cost once activated. Eventually, mere hate no longer incites violence, and survival becomes the sole motivation. Wanderer's Refuge Temple, a church on the city's edge, seems a haven for those who seek refuge from turmoil and death, but looks can be deceiving.

While racism and intolerance builds the backdrop of The War of Us, it also explores the adolescent love story of two unsuspecting teens who sacrifice their youth, passions, and each other to fulfill a mission that would unnerve anyone without a death wish. The intricately woven battle amid the dreadful revelation of the lovebirds' betrayal concludes with immeasurable losses on all sides. Its apocalyptic undertones signify a shift towards revolution and ignites the human spirit through its uncanny perspective on love, sacrifice, forgiveness, and the Black American experience.
