This book presents the first full account and critical edition of The Pilgrimage of the Life of Manhode based on the anonymous Middle English prose translation, of the First Recension of the long vision poem, Le Pelerinage de la Vie humaine. Once thought to be diffuse, Henry shows that this lively allegory is an intricate and effective structure stemming from the same theological foundation as works by Chaucer, Langland, and the Gawain-poet.
