John Broome is Emeritus White's Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Oxford and Honorary Professor at the Australian National University. He was previously Professor of Philosophy at the University of St Andrews. His earlier career was in economics: a PhD in Economics from MIT, a Lectureship in Economics at Birkbeck College, University of London, and a Professorship in Economics at the University of Bristol. He has held visiting posts at Princeton University, the Australian National University, the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, Stanford University, and elsewhere. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Fellow of the British Academy, a Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Corresponding Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. His publications include Normativity, Rationality and Reasoning: Selected Essays (OUP, 2001) and Weighing Lives (OUP, 2004).
