The Early Lives of John Locke

Mark Goldie graduated from the University of Sussex and took his PhD at Cambridge. He was successively Lecturer, Reader, and Professor of Intellectual History at Cambridge, where he has been departmental Chair of the Faculty of History and editor of The Historical Journal. He is a Fellow of Churchill College, where he has been Vice-Master. He has published extensively in the field of British political, religious, and intellectual history 1600-1800. He chairs the editorial board of the Clarendon Edition of the Works of John Locke. In 2021 he gave the Carlyle Lectures in Oxford on the theme of 'John Locke and Empire'.Delphine Soulard read Intellectual History in France before completing her MA from Royal Holloway, University of London. Mark Goldie became her mentor in Cambridge, where she held the post of French Lectrice at St John's College while working on her French doctoral thesis. She was awarded a Huguenot Scholarship for her research on Locke and the Huguenots in the Republic of Letters. She has authored several articles on Anglo-French cultural transmission, and is currently working on an edition of Locke's translation of Pierre Nicole's Essais de morale for the Clarendon Edition of the Works of John Locke.
