The Destiny

On a blustery January day in 1952, Mina Kota gives birth to her daughter, Miriam. Mina and her mother, Punita, endeavour to protect Miriam from their business associates, and to raise her in a loving home in post-war Amsterdam. Miriam finds herself struggling with her identity, and eventually her rebellious nature breaks free.

Hart Lang is born at the end of 1949, into a family of soldiers whose wartime experiences drove their need to survive, sometimes against treacherous odds. They are a family bound together by a web of enduring love.

When Miriam meets Hart, she sees an opportunity to change her life and achieve her dreams. When Hart shares his longing for a child, she sets out to oblige him, thereby securing her future—or so she thinks.
