«‘Teaching Peter McLaren’ is provocative, thorough, timely, engaging, challenging, reflective, critical, outstanding, unique, witty, and above all, a superb and needed contribution to the understanding of one of the most influential pedagogues of our times. In this book, Marc Pruyn and Luis Huerta-Charles put together the most comprehensive collection of articles addressing the contributions, changes, contradictions, influences, background, and potential of the ideas and praxis of a revolutionary scholar who has been a very creative, forceful, and brave voice for more than 30 years – Peter McLaren. This is the book that those who are passionate and committed to the creation of a better society and the urgent need to re-invent schooling as a space for social change and meaningful learning are waiting to read.» (Gustavo Enrique Fischman, Arizona State University)«‘Teaching Peter McLaren’ not only engages the work of one of the most formidable political sociologists in the field of education, it also sounds a challenge to educators and researchers worldwide that the purpose of educational research is not to explain the world, but to transform it. In a field that most often marginalizes its voices of dissent, it is heartening to see a book that honors one of our most outspoken and influential intellectuals and activists.» (Kris Gutierrez, University of California, Los Angeles)«‘Teaching Peter McLaren’ offers a wide-ranging critical analysis of one of education’s most vibrant writers. The book itself provides an important historical overview of Peter McLaren’s scholarly work across two decades, and the scholars brought together by Marc Pruyn and Luis Huerta-Charles present a rich polyvocal account of McLaren’s significant contributions to critical pedagogy and social theory. Undergraduate, graduate, and academic readers alike will find this text an invaluable reference resource.» (Michele Knobel, Montclair State University)«Using his own rich experience as a teacher-activist, and with the inspiration of Paulo Freire and Ché Guevara, Peter McLaren has amazingly re-shaped Western pedagogy into a liberatory weapon for all oppressed people. This collection of essays on his work is an eloquent testimony to McLaren’s powerful contribution to the discipline of education as a transformative critique and emancipatory praxis.» (E. San Juan, Jr., Director of the Philippines Cultural Studies Center, Connecticut; Author of ‘Racism and Cultural Studies’ and ‘Beyond Postcolonial Theory’)«For more than three decades, Peter McLaren’s provocative and passionate contributions to educational, social, and political thought have influenced and inspired pedagogues and activists the world over. Through both words and deeds, McLaren has unrelentingly challenged the myriad forms of injustice that exist in the world and has tirelessly committed his energies to the struggle for transformative social change. ‘Teaching Peter McLaren’ is at once a remarkable testament to his formidable career and a critical engagement with his unique theoretical formulations. This welcome, overdue, and comprehensive book is a powerful tribute to the rich tapestry of McLaren’s life work, and a must-read for all those who still believe that another world is indeed possible.» (Valerie Scatamburlo-D’Annibale, University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada)«Marc Pruyn and Luis Huerta-Charles have excelled by inviting scholars to submit powerful accounts of Peter McLaren’s work for ‘Teaching Peter McLaren’. The narratives offered in this book capture the soul of McLaren’s lifetime struggle to shift teaching and teachers beyond the confines of classroom management and schooling authoritarianism. Pruyn and
