Studies in Seventeenth-Century European Philosophy is a collection of new, specially written essays on the flowering of modern philosophy on the continent of Europe. The historical span of the volume is from Descartes to Leibniz; many other thinkers, famous and obscure, are discussed by the eight eminent contributors. The book embodies the central aim of the series Oxford Studies in the History of Philosophy: to further the understanding of philosophy in its historical context, in relation to the general intellectual culture and institutions of its time.
