"For Levermore and Budd it is “the ability to cross over between the local, national and international on the one hand, and to connect the mass and the elite on the other, that makes sport such an important phenomena.” In this collection, they present seven papers examining select issues arising out of the inter-connections between sport and international relations, including sport’s role in constructing the inter-state worldview; sport and capitalism; sport, gender and international relations; British sport and national prestige; building an international regime to combat doping in sport; British diplomacy and the Olympic movement; and the governance and political economy of world football (soccer)." --Reference & Research Book News
