The late HOWARD R. SIMPSON was the author of eight other well-received novels. He also wrote several nonfiction books, including Dien Bien Phu (Brassey's, Inc., 1995).

"- "A richly textured picture of life in the tortured, battle-torn nation as the war builds up to the Tet offensive of 1968. In addition to examining the pervasive effects of the French/Indo-Chinese culture on Vietnam, Simpson offers a vivid description of unconventional warfare; this isn't a pleasant read, but it is an authoritative, and cautionary, one." - Publishers Weekly - "Captures the 'how it wasness' of the war and life in Saigon." - Indochina Chronology - "Set in a place and time that Simpson evokes with skill and obvious knowledge." - Kirkus Reviews
