Beskrivning
This illuminating guide to solidarity economy movements - movements that are fighting for and building more just and sustainable modes of living - pulls together the thinking and practice of two experienced scholar- activists.Theoretically robust, but also written in clear, simple prose and replete with rich case studies and pedagogical features, the book showcases the history and potential of social and solidarity economy movements to meet basic needs, build political power, and advance other worlds. It analyzes opportunities and contradictions of a diverse range of solidarity economy movement projects in Massachusetts to show how movements are shifting emphasis from building an alternative economy to building alternatives to economy: worlds where vulnerability, care, and relationality are not treated as weaknesses, but rather as foundational to the new social order.
