"…highly readable and well-illustrated, making it valuable to all levels of providers and students alike. The book targets specialties associated with newborn care, such as obstetrics, pediatrics, and neonatology… [It] more than meets the needs of the audience with highly understandable text and illustrations… This is a high-quality book. The chapters are easy to read and understand. They are complete in discussing the diagnosis and management of the conditions, and the illustrations and photos add to the understanding of the defects. With new evidence developing as well as new treatment modalities coming out, this book is a needed update. Readers should be aware of and not confuse this book with the similarly titled Smith's Recognizable Patterns of Human Malformation, 8th Edition, Jones et al. (Elsevier, 2021)."Review by Pamela Harris-Haman, DNP, APRN, NNP-BC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), ©Doody's Review Service, 2026. Doody's Score: 100, 5 Stars!
