This collection contains articles written by foreign journalists living in the UK and Europe during the American Civil War, who provide an outsider's view of events. Articles were first published from 1856-1865 in British, French, and Spanish journals such as The Saturday Review, The Economist, La Presse, Revue des deux monde, Pensamiento Español, La Iberia, and others. Political cartoons from Punch are included, as well as an excerpt from the American journal The North American Review. In each chapter, articles are presented in alphabetical order by magazine and without commentary, but with a general description of the journal. Adams, a historian and taxation attorney, has written several books and articles. This book is intended for Civil War buffs, students, and historians.
