Singin' Bout a Revolution makes vital contributions to the growing literature on children's activism by drawing much-needed attention to the aesthetic, affective, and creative dimensions of children's political practices. Hansen's deep respect for children as producers of knowledge is profound - he takes children's musical interventions seriously, subjecting their work to the detailed critical analysis it deserves, while illuminating how dominant ideas about childhood structure the conflicting public response to these youthful interventions. Exciting, deeply researched, and thoroughly pleasurable to read, this book shows how children's musical activism can spark our imaginations, produce new perspectives and feelings, and transform our understanding of childhood itself.
