Shanghai Homes is silently stunning. It inscribes intimate details of private lives in alley neighborhoods as family memoir, urban history, a poetics of space. Its palimpsest of images, sketches, sensations, hearsay, memories, and artifacts subtly arouse the tender, tense passions of home.
