Decision-making is a basic concept of modern societies and their self-description. However, both the way and the extent to which decisions are talked about, how they can be conceptually understood and how they can be told, is historically determined. The semantics and narratives of decision-making therefore differ depending on the social and cultural context. The volume pursues the goal of examining both the word field 'decision' and the narratives with which decisions are presented as a form of social action in their historical change from an epoch-spanning and interdisciplinary perspective. With the help of historical-semantic and narratological methods, the contributions examine different case studies ranging from the Middle Ages to the present and from Europe to India.
