Seismic Design Handbook

The long-awaited second edition of 'The Seismic Design Handbook' reflects the latest concepts in seismic design. This updated edition has been extensively revised and now includes three new chapters: Seismic Upgrading of Existing Structures, Performance Based Seismic Engineering, and Computer Applications in Seismic Design. The first edition of this handbook was published in 1989 and became a standard textbook for teaching seismic design at major universities such as UC Berkeley, Stanford USC, University of Buffalo, University of Michigan, Cornell, the Imperial College of London, Israel Institute of Technology and many other fine institutions. The new edition is an essential resource for civil, structural and geotechnical engineers; code officials; architects; seismologists and students. The substantial increase in size (now more than 800 pages) reflects many lessons learned from damaging effects of earthquakes worldwide over the last decade. Where applicable, the provisions of seismic design standards such as the 2000 International Building Code (IBC), 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC) and the NEHRP Guidelines for the Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings (FEMA 273/274) are explained, and their differences are highlighted.
