"This would be an excellent resource for clinical areas where sedation and analgesia are administered. There are tables and figures throughout the book summarizing protocols, regulatory requirements, dosages, monitoring requirements, and quality assurance tools... The book is technical and comprehensive. Many research studies are cited. Multiple drugs and procedures are included. It is an excellent reference for professionals providing sedation and analgesia in various settings. Nurses would have to be specialists in these settings to understand or have a need for this book." -Doody's Health Sciences Book Review Journal "The first chapter is an excellent review of the neurobiology of sedation. Understanding the role of monitoring is well described by Tremper. He emphasizes the rationale and underlying physics of the devices commonly used. This is a thoughtful review of the issues involved in conscious sedation." -Annals of Internal Medicine "...the book is a significant contribution to a complex and challenging area in health care. The outstanding chapters alone make the text worthwhile." -Anesth Analg
