‘Joel Faflak and Sue Chaplin have produced an invaluable entryway into the study of Romanticism. With its sophisticated combination of key terms, figures, genres, and movements alongside close reading of representative works and in depth analysis of contemporary critical trends and landmarks, this introduction engages an expanded Romantic canon with precision and aplomb. Faflak's historical overview sets a high bar to which all subsequent essays rise. The result is an excellent presentation of novel and challenging approaches to a changing field of study. Students preparing for finals or a major essay will want to consult every essay in the volume, while those encountering Romanticism for the first time will find this a steady reference and constant helpmate. Highly recommended.'
