This is the story of a young boy growing up in the seaside town of Blackpool. He is the youngest member of a typical loving family of four. The era is the nineteen sixties and despite having a very close bond with his mother, David has quite a job coming to terms with everything else. This includes School, God, Santa Claus and pretty much all other categories in-between.Later in life when he loses his Mum to dementia aged 81, things begin to take a downwards turn. The loss has affected him much more than he had ever expected. He loses interest in most things, until suddenly a number of unusual events begin to mysteriously point him back in the direction of all the things he loved - music, art and humour, to name but a few. Is someone somewhere trying to tell him something, and if so, who? As events begin to unfold and the universe starts to make a lot more sense, David realises that maybe he is finally moving towards happiness and his true life's purpose. Something that his mum and dad would have surely approved of. More reading and writing, and having a lot more faith.

David Hogarth was born in June 1959, Blackpool, Lancashire. He attended St. John's Church of England Primary and Junior Schools before later attending Blackpool Grammar School. His working career has included Entertainment Publicity, Newspaper Advertising, Estate Agency, Golf Course Management, Lecturing and Assessor work, and more recently as a Taxi owner/driver and shareholder with a local firm in his home town. He was also involved with, and played for, a number of local football, cricket and tennis clubs. He attended Foothill College in California where he played on the California State Championship winning Football Team in 1981 and 82.

I hope you don’t mind me messaging you David. I’m currently reading your book ‘Rise and Shine, Little Man’ and I absolutely love it. I’m from Blackpool myself, but I imagine even if I couldn’t relate to some of the places you mention I’d still be in admiration of this book. It warms my heart to know how much you loved your family, especially your Mum. Your overwhelming respect and adoration for her has moved me many times while reading this and you’ve balanced that beautifully with fantastic humour which has made me laugh out loud. It’s a great read. Thank you so much.
