This Palgrave Pivot book is the first to examine the long-term impacts of humanitarian scholarships on refugee-background university graduates in Australia. While these programs emerged only in the early 2010s and expanded from 2015, this is the first systematic analysis of their potential and limitations. The book shows that humanitarian scholarships are vital in opening access to higher education and fostering belonging, but they often fall short of enabling lasting social and professional integration. Many graduates continue to face limited professional networks, ongoing mental health challenges, and reduced support after university. As young people who will help shape Australia’s diverse and skilled workforce, their experiences reveal both what sustained opportunity can achieve and what is at stake when support ends too early.Aimed at policymakers, government agencies, university leaders, scholars, and postgraduate students in migration, education, and social equity, the book will also interest NGOs, philanthropic foundations, and international organisations focused on education and displacement. By shifting attention from access to long-term outcomes, it fills an important gap in the literature.
