Recent Advances in Gastroenterology

This book is a compilation of papers presented at an international symposium on digestive diseases held in Yokohama in April 1998. A major goal of the symposium was the exchange of information between researchers and practitioners in Japan and those in other countries. The papers that were presented and the discussions that were held provided valuable insights into the research and therapy being conducted throughout the world today. The contributions collected in this volume are in two parts. The first deals with the gastrointestinal tract and includes chapters on abnormalities of gastrointestinal motility, histopathological analysis, and problems in management of severe gastrointestinal bleeding. The second part, dealing with the liver and pancreas, includes chapters on expression of FAS ligand in relation to hepatic metastasis of colon cancer, antiviral therapy for hepatitis, treatment of chronic pancreatitis, and Ascaris-related biliopancreatic diseases.
