Raven men of the Yellowstone

This biography of native American chief Sore-Belly, war-lord of the Crows, is a thorough and unique account of the life and times of the greatest Crow war-chief who raised the Crows to the ascendancy they once achieved on the Northern High Plains. In the eighteenth and early nineteenth century the pursuit of intertribal warfare was an inseparable element of the Plains Indians' day-to-day existence with one hostile act being reciprocated by another, creating a never-ending cycle of aggression between the tribes. Brian Keefe has listened, recorded and studied hundreds of eye-witness accounts passed down the generations in the oral tradition. He has correlated accounts from separate sources to provide persuasive evidence about specific raiding parties, skirmishes and outright battles as well as providing a fascinating insight to a culture and way of life that is largely lost.
