William C. Hedberg is an associate professor in the School of International Letters and Cultures at Arizona State University. A specialist of early modern Japanese and Chinese literature, he is the author of The Japanese Discovery of Chinese Fiction: The Water Margin and the Making of a National Canon (Columbia University Press, 2019) and the co-editor of Interdisciplinary Edo: Toward an Integrated Approach to Early Modern Japan (Routledge,2024). His interests include travel literature, translation studies, and the history of sinology in Japan, and he is currently working on a study of Japanese perspectives on the fall of the Ming dynasty in 1644.
