One of the most controversial topics on the subject of race, crime, and criminal justice is the disproportionate representation of Blacks in the criminal justice system as offenders and prison inmates. Rather than portraying Blacks as perpetual victims of racism in which societal institutions are solely responsible for reform, this book seeks to put the power of change in the hands of Blacks. It focuses on the preventative role that Blacks might play and considers solution-oriented ways to stop this vicious cycle.

Prior to joining Texas Southern University in 2008, she taught for many years at a number of universities in England, United Kingdom.
