"Zakharov's book is the first monograph which deals with the subject. ... the book is quite important not in terms of explaining current processes in Russia, but also in Europe." (Dmitry Shlapentokh, Europe-Asia Studies, Vol. 68 (3), May, 2016) "Both adaptation of the book for a university classroom and its translation into Russian are highly commendable. ... this work presents a rich theoretical superstructure for multiplying ethnographic studies of racism in Russia. ... The book ... can serve as a good theoretical launch pad for such research." (Mikhail Suslov, Slavic Review, Vol. 75 (2), Summer, 2016) "This careful and thorough analysis of racialization is an important contribution to current scholarship. Zakharov draws on a wide range of literatures and sources and has advanced our understanding of processes of racialization in Russia within the broader context of global racialization." (Jennifer Suchland, SEER Slavonic and East European Review, Vol. 94 (2), April, 2016)
