‘This book is certainly a bold step, since political psychology has not been a field of interest or practice among psychology students in India. It is likely to stimulate interest among psychologists. However, psephologists working in India, the world’s oldest and largest democracy, have long used general psychological theories and principles to understand voters’ behaviour. The contributors have focused deeply on the social, cognitive and affective processes of voters, supported by empirical data, both quantitative and qualitative. Electoral forecasting has remained a real challenge for psephologists, even with big-data analysis and predictive technologies. The contributors have addressed issues such as terrorism, hunger, psychological literacy and disability. It is going to be a compilation of ideas as diverse as the domain of psephology, and shall serve the needs of readers, both fresh and mature, in the field.’Rajbir Singh, Adjunct Professor, Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Institute of Social and Economic Change, M.D. University, Rohtak‘This conceptually sophisticated volume illuminates the “silent revolution” where elections are no longer fought in ballot boxes, but are won within the mental landscape of the individual. By bridging the gap between algorithmic precision and the primitiveness of the human mind, it offers a valuable and essential architectural map for understanding the future of the democratic psyche.”Dr Sujit Verma, Asst Professor, Department of Physical Education, GGJ Govt. College Hisar, Haryana.‘The 17 chapters of this book constitute a vibrant collection of issues that have a direct impact on electoral decision-making. Indeed, it is a good resource.’Dr. Rajesh Kumar Prajapati, IAS, Special Secretary, UP‘This is a unique integration of psychology and psephology, which is a refreshing experience for both disciplines. I hope that this book will prove to be a milestone in the repository of academic knowledge.’Dr Subhas Chandra Prajapati, PCS, Controller of examinations, UPSSSC Lucknow.‘Addressing subjects such as terrorism, freebies, hunger, and caste, along with personality, emotional intelligence, identity, and biases, makes this book a unique collection.’Sh Aaditya Prajapati, PCS, ADM, Pratahgarh U.P.‘Political leaders, psephologists, political scientists, and those involved in the field of psychology, there is something in this book for all of you. You definitely must have it.’Prof KS Yadav (Retd.), Joint Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Haryana‘The book is a special piece of a psychological guide to understanding how elections are truly decided through influencing voters’ minds and guts long before polling day. Using real-life insights like reading EVM button wear and thumb-ink marks to gauge trends, it reveals how digital media, micro-targeting, and misinformation shape mandates. For citizens, it empowers voters to ignore misleading campaigns. For policymakers, it provides practical tools to strengthen transparency and promote informed voting. This can be a highly recommended book for readers interested in the constitutional process, electoral functioning and capturing human minds.’Professor (Dr) Sanjay Kumar, Department of Psychology, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh‘This volume brings together important perspectives on voting behaviour, combining classical theory with contemporary psychological insights. It thoughtfully captures how cognition, identity, and social context shape electoral choices. The range of topics and clarity of approach make it a useful resource for scholars and anyone interested in understanding democratic behaviour more deeply.’Prof. Karuna Shankar Misra, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Allahabad, Prayagraj.‘This book is a diverse collection of studies that explore major aspects that influence voters’ behaviour and ensuing outcomes. It is an academic endeavour to bridge the two streams of social sciences and offers practical implications in a technology-driven world. The selected contents examine how modern voters’ behaviour is shaped by digital media and associated technologies. I wish that this book would be a milestone in this field.’Prof. Alpna Agarwal, Head, Department of Psychology, C. C. S. University, Meerut‘Finally, a book that explains not just how elections are won but why voters choose the way they do. Timely and indispensable.’Dr Shalini Singh, Professor, Dept of Psychology, MD University, Rohtak, Haryana, India ‘This is a remarkable book, one of its kind for understanding various aspects that influence voters’ mindset, alter their preferences and impact elections in general. A wide coverage of psycho-socio dimensions and inclusion of political analysis through digital technologies provides insight into voters’ choice and decision-making behaviour.’Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Sharma, Professor, Department of Psychology, S.D. (PG) College, Ghaziabad.‘A timely academic intervention, significant for the inquisitive minds working in the fields of Psychology and Political Science and an interesting account for laypersons.’Dr. Aparna Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Political Science, University of Allahabad‘The volume is a well-planned collection of essays on the complex election process in Indian democracy. The Republic of India witnessed its first general election in 1952, when the literacy rate and economic conditions were overwhelmingly depressed in a socio-culturally and linguistically diverse country. Over the past nearly eight decades, the election process, the lifeline of democracy, has evolved with the changes around us, particularly in people's attitudes, the media, mass communication technologies, and election machinery. The book goes beyond the socio-political context of India and touches on how realities exist in its neighbouring countries. I recommend the book to master’s and research scholars interested in voting behaviour across social science disciplines, and to all those interested in the electoral process in democracy.’Prof Janak Pandey, Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, University of Allahabad, Allahabad
