He practises as a psychiatrist at Cabrini Health in Australia. He has been Head of the Department of Psychiatry for Monash University, Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Foundation Chair of PalliativeMedicine at the University of Melbourne. He was President of the International Psycho-Oncology Society 2000-2003. He is senior editor of Oxford Textbook of Communication in Oncology and Palliative Care, 3rd Edition, 2026.Michael Jefford is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and Director of the Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre, both at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia. He is a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He has had survivorship lead roles with the International Psycho-oncology Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia.
