Progress on Transboundary Water Cooperation Under the Water Convention

The publication presents and analyses the findings of the third reporting exercise under the Water Convention, which was carried out in 2023. Progress made in the implementation of the Convention is reviewed and summarised, together with the identification of significant trends, success, challenges and opportunities concerning transboundary water cooperation. Today, the membership of the Water Convention is steadily growing, reconfirming its role as a legal framework for transboundary water cooperation worldwide and transforming its intergovernmental platform into a major forum for international debate on transboundary cooperation, peace and sustainable development. The report aims to strengthen the understanding of the requirements of the Convention and to contribute to its effective implementation and to improved transboundary water cooperation worldwide.
