James S. Fishkin holds the Janet M. Peck Chair in International Communication at Stanford University where he is Professor of Communication and Professor of Political Science. He is also Director of Stanford’s Center for Deliberative Democracy and has been co-editor of the Philosophy, Politics and Society series since 1979. He is the author of a number of books on both democratic theory and the theory of justice, including When the People Speak (2009) and The Dialogue of Justice (1992).Robert E. Goodin is a Distinguished Professor of both Philosophy and of Social and Political Theory in the Research School of Social Sciences at Australian National University; and a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy. He is Editor of a 10-volume series of Oxford Handbooks of Political Science and the Journal of Political Philosophy. His latest book is Innovating Democracy (2008).
