A clutch of Red Cross chickens are surprised with the arrival of a new member, Pia, a beautiful Polish pullet. Confused and unfamiliar with her appearance, all the chickens poke fun at her. Pia is left heartbroken and ostracized.
Due to their inability to accept Pia's physical differences, the clutch pecks her plume to make her look like them. Regal, the old wise rooster, intervenes the injustice that befalls Pia while she realizes her fallen feathers are exceptionally beautiful. Despite the ill treatment, she befriends the rest of the clutch and forgives them for their wrongdoing.
With time, the clutch starts envying Pia for her beautiful plume of feathers and how her friendship blossoms with the chipmunks. One day, the owner picks Pia for the annual town fair competition because of her beauty. After winning first place, Pia returns back to the farm only to see everyone sad and jealous. To bring joy To Their faces, Pia uses her formerly plucked feathers to make headpieces for the flock. Through her compassion and charity, the chickens use their headpieces in resourceful and playful ways.
Pic's journey is a story of how real beauty is what lies within ourselves. One should not be afraid of showcasing their splendor. In reading the story, we come to understand that beauty has ingenious value, charitable attributes, protective elements and it brings delight. It is through the celebration of our differences that unites us all. We should not be quick to judge others who are different from us, but rather embrace them for what makes them inimitable.
