Patterns of Time

An examination of the work of Kenji Mizoguchi, regarded as one of the three most important Japanese directors. It focuses on his early works in the 1930s and analyzes the formal and stylistic components of four of his films, including "The Downfall of Osen" (1935) and "Naniwa Elegy" (1936).
