Inspired by the lived experiences of families raising autistic children, this book emerged from a recognized gap in the comprehensive understanding of Canadian parents’ and family caregivers’ experiences and perspectives. Bringing together a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, educators, students, and family members, this book presents a critical review of the Canadian context by synthesizing research conducted with the caregivers of autistic children over the last twenty-five years. Structured in three sections, each chapter opens with a lived-experience narrative to centre caregiver voices and ground analysis in everyday realities. Drawing on both qualitative and quantitative research, it reveals the multidimensional nature of caregiving, and the emotional, logistical, and systemic challenges families face. This book offers evidence-based insights for health and social care professionals, researchers, students, policymakers, and families committed to improving the quality of life and well-being for autistic individuals and their families.
