Our Boat Project

If you are buying or refurbishing a yacht, or feel your own boat needs some TLC, this book will inspire you and give you the confidence to take on the challenge, as well as knowledge to move forward. Whether you want to understand the processes better to enable you to talk more confidently to trades people and suppliers, or are considering doing some of the work yourself, this unique guide will set you on the right path.Discover how to undertake a project, be it large or small, by following Ali Wood, who had little or no experience of refurbishing a yacht. However, as Features Editor of Practical Boat Owner magazine, she knew the experts who could advise and guide her. She talked to over 25 of them and got them to show her how to do things. Alongside the practical advice, you’ll get a broader knowledge of the topics as Ali quizzed the experts about their specialist areas. This will give you a better understanding of the work that needs to be done and more confidence in making decisions – even if you’re paying someone else to do it. Knowing what you are talking about will help you when working with suppliers. You will join Ali on her DIY journey and learn from her honest and informative account, covering topics such as:•Preparing for boat ownership and purchase, including commissioning a survey•Tackling the hull including fixing leaks, installing seacocks, polishing the topsides and applying antifouling•Upgrading the electronics with the right batteries and power management•Servicing the engine•Sorting out the cabin, including the heads•Checking and improving the sails and riggingThis book isn’t a traditional maintenance manual, it’s a personal story, which makes it a great read. But it is also full of expert advice, step-by-step photo sequences and explanations of how to do different tasks. Don’t buy a second-hand boat without having read this book first.
