Annie White illustrates and writes for children from her studio in Melbourne, Australia. After studying art and design, she worked in advertising and now freelances for a number of publishers and other interested people. Annie has illustrated over 90 books for children and likes to communicate her ideas clearly and simply using expression and movement. Some of her picture books have appeared on the CBCA Notables list (Clementine’s Treasure), the Speech Pathology shortlist (Clementine’s Walk and Clementine’s Bath), the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards shortlist and the Australian Book Industry Awards shortlist. Annie’s studio dogs – Millie and then Daisy – have provided the inspiration for the Clementine stories, every one of them based on a true story. The scruffy and lovable Clementine character is often dismissed in exasperation but frequently turns out to be the catalyst for bringing her family together, whether it’s by drumming up a walk, escaping from a bath, pilfering a precious jewel or offering her assistance at Christmas time. Clementine’s over exuberance, poor sense of timing and endearing character have remained constant since her first appearance over a decade ago.
