Dr. Biswajit Mukhopadhyay is a licensed professional engineer and certified floodplain manager with expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources engineering and management. He is one of the first 100 recipients of the Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer, a Board Certification conferred by the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dr. Mukhopadhyay is the primary author of the comprehensive and authoritative textbook Applied Hydrology (Cambridge University Press, 2024). While working as a practicing hydrologic and hydraulic engineer for over three decades, he also held adjunct faculty positions at the University of Texas at Arlington and Southern Methodist University, where he taught courses on surface water and ground water hydrology and open channel hydraulics. He has authored over fifty technical articles in peer-reviewed journals, and over a hundred engineering reports, held responsibilities to act as the “engineer of record” for numerous design plans related to flood control and water resources engineering, and presented key findings and critical observations at local, regional, national, and international conferences and seminars. He has taught many special topics of hydraulic engineering for practicing engineers in the industry as part of professional development courses.
