On the Prairies We Will Live Forever

“Erica Violet Lee makes her own traditions, weaving hope and promise throughout her poetry. You will be changed because you read her work." —Tracey Lindberg, author of Birdie and The Cree Word for Love

Erica Violet Lee’s stunning debut poetry collection, On the Prairies We Will Live Forever, envisions a world where the inner-city is and has always been home on Native Land, and where good food, clean air, and a call for joy are the taste, smell, and sound of revolution.

Intertwining the political and the intimate in exquisitely crafted poems and prose, Lee explores love as a community care practice toward freedom. Her writing imagines that everyday thriving for Native girls from the hood to the rez is the sweetest resistance to a cruel colonial empire—one that is much more fragile than we are taught to believe.
